In 2008 R.E. Millward & Associates was retained by the City of Ottawa as Project Advisor for their Integrated Street Furniture Program. This role involved advising the Project Manager and Steering Committee on process steps, and helping structure community and industry consultation processes. Specific tasks included developing a comprehensive document for the placement, design and functionality of Ottawa’s street furniture. The guidelines incorporated components of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED), accessibility, functionality, technological innovation, and sustainability.
The firm also helped structure a consultation strategy. This included managing an Industry Design and Functionality Workshop with Ottawa’s professional design community. The firm also conducted extensive best practice research into existing program management frameworks, made recommendations on the appropriate model and assisted in the development of the resulting RFP. The project was completed in 2010.
