Concrete Works: Aggregate and Concrete Facilities in the Toronto Port Lands

In 2002, R.E. Millward & Associates was retained by Strada Aggregates Inc. to coordinate and project manage a rezoning process involving four aggregate companies applying to locate along the Ship Channel in Toronto’s Port Land. Through careful research and analysis of the City’s policies and of other port cities around the world, R.E. Millward & Associates developed land use planning recommendations that aligned with the City’s Official Plan and emerging Waterfront policies. The process involved coordinating the efforts of concrete/aggregate producers, multiple consultants, and public agencies including the Waterfront Secretariat, Toronto Economic Development Corporation (now Build TO), City Planning and other City of Toronto divisions. A full public process was carried out and R.E. Millward & Associates led the extensive community consultations. The project was successfully completed in 2008.

As a result of this work, R.E. Millward & Associates has a strong knowledge and understanding of the environmental conditions, economic realities and land-use tensions on Toronto’s Port Lands.
