Filmport Studios (Pinewood Studios Inc)
From 2003 to 2008, R.E. Millward + Associates acted as the lead planning consultant for the development of Filmport Studios, now known as Pinewood Studios Inc. 2003, R.E. Millward + Associates was retained by The Rose Corporation, owners of the Toronto Film Studios, to participate in a Toronto Economic Development Corporation (currently CreateTO) proposal process for the development of a new film complex on lands south of Commissioner Street in the Port Lands.
After a successful bidding process, the collaborative team advanced its overall vision for the Film/Media Complex. The concept was developed to conform to the existing and emerging planning policies and goals. Our team highlighted the importance of the public realm and attractive urban design elements that would draw economic activity and visitors to the Port Lands. R.E. Millward + Associates brought extensive knowledge of the Official Plan and Waterfront policies and zoning by-laws then in place, and acted as an intermediary through the planning consultation process among the variety of stakeholders including Waterfront Toronto, City of Toronto planning and other divisions, the TRCA and community stakeholders.
