Studio City Toronto Inc.
In 2018, R.E. Millward + Associates was retained by Studio City Toronto Inc. to assist with the planning approvals for the development of three new sound stages used for film and television production purposes in the municipally recognized creative industries cluster within the Port Lands.
The proposed development at 945 Lake Shore Boulevard East responds to the planning policy framework and existing context as it complements the existing studio facility on the adjacent 915 Lake Shore Boulevard East and is similar to nearby film studio uses. Further, the proposal involves replicating the former “JumboStage” located at 75 Commissioners Street. The well-utilized and iconic JumboStage will be demolished to accommodate the Don River realignment and on-going Port Lands Flood Proofing project. Therefore, this proposal simultaneously serves to develop the previously vacant site at 945 Lake Shore Boulevard East, while also replacing a critical piece of film infrastructure and increasing the City’s studio inventory by adding two additional sound stages.
This project is being completed in consultation with a variety of stakeholders including CreateTO, the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority, Waterfront Toronto, and the City of Toronto.
